Bodies of Area Veterans Being Returned

The bodies of two Minnesota and three Wisconsin area servicemen are included in the latest shipment of war dead from the Pacific being returned for reburial.

Those from Wisconsin include Motor Machinist Mate First Class Harold L. Dobson.

Dobson, 24, Black River Falls, a member of a PT-boat crew in the South Pacific, died October 13, 1944, as the result of burns received in the line of duty. He enlisted in the Navy in December, 1942, and attended school in Cloverdale and Papoose creek and church at Trout Run. Listed as next of kin in his father, Luther Dobson, Black River Falls.

The bodies are being returned from Manila aboard the United States Army Transport Lieutenant George W. F. Boyce. The arrival will be announced by the San Francisco port of embarkation.

The dead were originally buried in temporary military cemeteries in New Guinea and the Philippine islands. A total of 4,459 dead are being returned with 102 from Minnesota and 101 from Wisconsin.
