Bodies of Area Veterans Being Returned

The bodies of two Minnesota and three Wisconsin area servicemen are included in the latest shipment of war dead from the Pacific being returned for reburial.

Those from Wisconsin include

Sergeant Bernard E. Wohlforth, Pepin. Sergeant Wohlforth, 23, was killed in action on Bougainville island in the Solomons islands group March 12, 1944. He entered the service in February, 1942, and was sent overseas in August, 1843. Listed as next of kin is his father, John A. Wohlforth, Pepin.

The bodies are being returned from Manila aboard the United States Army Transport Lieutenant George W. F. Boyce. The arrival will be announced by the San Francisco port of embarkation.

The dead were originally buried in temporary military cemeteries in New Guinea and the Philippine islands. A total of 4,459 dead are being returned with 102 from Minnesota and 101 from Wisconsin.

Where were they reburied?

Where were they reburied? He is my uncle and there is a grave marker in Pepin, but his body was just returned a few years ago.
