Lafayette Cook died October 29, 1915, aged 86 years; born in Pompey, N. Y., son of Samuel Cook. He was without doubt the last survivor in this section who took part in the Mexican war, serving in the navy and was for ten years after the war on a merchantman. From 1852 to 1855, he was in California. He enlisted from Windham, Vt., August 26, 1862, in Co. D, 16th Vermont regiment; mustered out August 10, 1863. He came to Greenfield from Vermont in 1883; member of Edwin E. Day Post [GAR].
