Burger, Martha Jane "Bunny" Miller
ATHENS, Ga. — Martha Jane Miller Burger, known to friends and family as “Bunny,” of Athens, died Wednesday morning, Sept. 1, 2010, in Athens Heritage Health Care. She was 89.
Born on Dec. 1, 1920, in Sharpsville, Mrs. Burger was a daughter of George Y. Miller and Lena Redmond Miller of Sharpsville.
She was a graduate of Sharpsville High School, class of 1938.
Bunny was primarily a housewife and mother, but worked at various times for the Georgia Center for Continuing Education, Athens General Hospital and the University of Georgia Bookstores.
She served proudly in the Coast Guard during World War II and beyond, serving from 1944-46. She was honorably discharged as a boatswain’s mate second class.
Bunny is survived by two sons, David G. Burger, Athens; and Terry W. Burger and his partner of many years, Sue Tanner, Gettysburg, Pa.; and a sister, Shirley Miller McDonald, Sharon.
She was predeceased by her husband, Ralph W. Burger, Athens; two sisters, Audrene Miller Batten, Sharon; and Pauline Miller Batten, Sharpsville; and two brothers, Tom Miller, Sharpsville; and Chauncey L. “Bing” Miller, California.
