Beauhuld, William W. "Billy"
Marine, Former Boxer, Wounded
NEW YORK, (AP)--William W. (Billy) Beauhuld, one of the top-ranking lightweight fighters a few years back, was listed as wounded by the Navy yesterday. He is a member of the Marines.
Beauhuld, amateur champion before turning professional in 1935, compiled a record of 44 pro fights without a defeat before he was stopped in the fifth round by Henry Armstrong, then world's featherweight champion, at Madison Square Garden, Nov. 19, 1937.
He retired from the ring Jan. 7, 1941 after being knocked out in the fourth round by Frankie Velez in Jersey City. Although his mother lives in St. Louis, Beauhuld did most of his fighting out of Jersey City.
