Funeral of PFC Joseph C. Goven
Funeral services for Private First Class Joseph C. Goven, 24, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph H. Goven, 427 East Third street, will be conducted Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Stanislaus church, the Rev. N. F. Grulkowski officiating. Preliminary services will be at the Watkowski funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery. Private Goven was killed in action March 29, 1943, in Fon Douk, North Africa. He had enlisted April 14, 1941. He was born July 20, 1918, in Winona, and was graduated from Winona Senior High school in 1938. He was a member of St. Thomas court, Catholic Order of Foresters, at St. Stanislaus church. The rosary will be said Friday at 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home by Father Grulkowski. The Catholic Order of Foresters will say the rosary at 7 p.m. Friday. Friends may call there after 6:30 p.m. Friday. The body will arrive here on the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul & Pacific railroad at 4:09 p.m. that day. The Veterans of Foreign Wars will provide the color detail and the firing squad for the funeral services and the American Legion, the pallbearers.
