CHARITON SOLDIER DEAD IN FRANCE
Member of Old Third Iowa Killed in France---Aged Twenty-two and Married.
Chariton, May 25.---Word was received here late yesterday afternoon of the death of Private Carl L. Caviness, aged twenty-two years, a member of the 168th Infantry A. E. F. in France. His name is included in today's casualty list from the American fighting forces.
Private Caviness left here in March 1917 and enlisted in the First Iowa Infantry, later transferring to the Third Iowa which is a part of the Rainbow division. He was married at Charles City last spring, and is a son of Mrs. Miranda Caviness of Caldwell, Idaho, formerly of Chariton, and brother of Mrs. John Frazier and Mrs. Carl Waugh of this city. His wife resides in Charles City.
