Root, Howard Clayton - Captain


Son of Mr. and Mrs. John H. Root; born February 5, 1887,
Fort Wayne, Ind. Mechanical engineer for the Prest-O-Lite
Company, Indianapolis. Served on Mexican Border in 1916.
Re-enlisted in Indiana National Guard in June, 1917; sent to
Camp Shelby, Miss. Commissioned Captain. Assigned to
Company B, 113th Field Signal Battalion. Died of influenza
October 5, 1918, Camp Mills, L. I., while waiting for overseas
orders. Buried with military honors in Lindenwood Cemetery,
Fort Wayne, Ind.
