Gillespie, William L.


Son of William R. and Eleanor Gillespie; born November 1,
1900, Fort Wayne, Ind. Served on the Mexican Border in
1916. Enlisted in U.S. Regular Army January 29, 1917,
Columbus Barracks, Ohio; assigned to Company G, 16th
Infantry. Overseas in June, 1917, with First Division. Died
October 7, 1918, in Base Hospital No. 1, from wounds received
in action while delivering a dispatch. Awarded the Distinguished
Service Cross, and the Croix de Guerre.
