Strain, Benjamin Turner - Corporal


Son of Samuel M. and Anna Turner Strain; born June 18,
1896, Newton, Kan. Moved to Greensburg, Ind. about 1912.
Railroad employe. Enlisted in U.S. Marine Corps in June,
1917, St. Louis, Mo. Trained at Parris Island, S. C. Overseas
in May, 1918; assigned to 45th Company, 5th Regiment.
Killed in action June 6, 1918, Chateau-Thierry. On June 28,
the Distinguished Service Cross was awarded him (posthu-
mously) for extraordinary heroism in action.
