Son of Mr. and Mrs. William Cierniak; born February 5,
1893, Chicago, Ill. Moved to Hammond, Ind. in 1910. Laborer.
Enlisted in U.S. Regular Army July 3, 1917, Hammond, Ind.
Sent to Ft. Thomas, Ky. ; assigned to Battery E, 15th Field
Artillery. Embarked for overseas December 12, 1917. Served
as cook. Died of nephritis October 4, 1918, and buried in
Riaucourt, Haute Marne, France.
